What do food mean to us？ I recently watched this video suggesting that there is huge waste in the food industry in developed countries and a shortage in the food in developing countries. So this unequal supply of food is causing many to suffer in with a lack of food, but even in developed countries, people are suffering because of the food they throw away. Especially in China, people don't really have the idea of saving food or separating the different waste.
First, it is considered loosing face to take food away in China. It is more considered a tradition in China that taking food away is the habit of those poor people, so, especially when going out to eat usually means you are being with your friend or someone respectful, you don't take stuffs away, but you leave them there, showing that you are a rich person that never care about the minor details. So traditions like them do have huge impact on how people treat what is considered "normal or routine" things in their lives. Food waste, under these circumstances, are ignored when people choose to care more about the their traditions and their so-called dignity.
Moreover, the separation of the waste needed to be addressed to the citizens. Choosing to spend less time on waste separation actually proposes huge threat to the environment, and it not only have effect on the environment that we can not reach, it affects our communities' environment. Walking pass a trash can that smells disgusting would never be a scene for anyone, and the smell affects the moods of people, the well beings of the surrounding plans and animals, while all these harms are in fact happening now around us.
Food waste and dealing with the trash is never something that is really far away from us, and it is our obligation and our only solution to stand up and face the problem.
